Become a co-sponsor
What is co-Sponsorship?
Co-sponsorship is a transformative way for individuals, faith groups, and community organizations to take a leading role in welcoming refugees and immigrants. Unlike traditional volunteering, co-sponsorship at Advitcare RIS means you are part of a specialized team that provides a landing pad for a refugee, backed by our robust financial and legal infrastructure.
Who can I co-Sponsor?
You can apply to co-sponsor someone you know, such a friend or family member who is eligible for resettlement. You will have to collect and provide specific information about the refugee to submit your application to a sponsor.
You can also co-sponsor someone you can be matched with who has previously been approved for resettlement.
When do refugees arrive?
If you are applying to sponsor someone you know, you should expect that it will take at least 5 months and up to a few years from the time you submit a completed application for travel arrangements to be made with the government and border services.
It typically takes between 9 to 3 years to be matched with a refugee or refugee family and for travel arrangements to be made.
Your Commitment as a Co-Sponsor
To kickstart the process, co-sponsors provide a $300 to $500 downpayment. This fund is used directly for the refugee's immediate needs upon arrival at our local shelters in Mexico, such as:
Seasonal clothing and footwear
Basic household essentials
Medical needs
Do we offer payment plans?
Yes co-sponsors can be given a payment plan to pay parts per month to co-sponsor a refugee.
What is expected as a co-sponsor?
We recognize this is a big commitment. Throughout your sponsorship journey, you will receive ongoing guidance and step-by-step support from a trusted resettlement organization.
